About us

More than trees. Possibility.

TREE Foundation Gambia is a community-led conservation organisation turning climate concern into local action — in schoolyards, villages and the next generation's hands.

Our story

A small team with a long view.

TREE Foundation Gambia began with a practical idea: give children the tools to plant, care for and defend native trees. Not a campaign about distant futures — a set of actions that make a school ground cooler this year, and a community more resilient for the next generation.

We are a young nonprofit conservation organisation based in Kololi, Kanifing. Our founding team is small — two to ten people — and our network is not: teachers, parents, Village Development Committees, local leaders and international supporters all shape the work.

On 15 October 2026, our first Little Earth Guardians planting day took place at Medina Kanuma Lower Basic School in Lower Niumi, North Bank Region. Pupils from the lower basic and nursery schools planted seedlings with their teachers, the Alkaloo and Village Development Committees, supported by local and international friends.

We are still small. That is part of our strength. We work closely with the people who know their land best, and we build slowly enough to do it right.

Our mission

Restore what protects us.

To raise awareness, promote responsible environmental practices, and support initiatives that protect natural resources. We encourage community participation in environmental protection, advocate for sustainable policies, and implement programmes that restore and preserve ecosystems.

Our vision

A greener, cooler Gambia.

A country where every child learns under shade, eats from healthy soil, and has a real say in the future of their environment — where climate action is ordinary, local and shared.

What guides us

Four values, planted deep.

These are the tests we apply to every partnership, planting day and programme we take on.

01

Community first

The school, the village and the people who will water the trees decide what grows. We follow their lead.

02

Intergenerational

Children are not props in a photo. They are the gardeners, the learners and the long-term custodians.

03

Native by nature

We favour species that belong here — trees that feed, shade, enrich soil and survive the climate we have now.

04

Open by default

We are a young foundation. We share what we learn, what works, and where we still need help.

Leadership

The people behind the trees.

A small core team, supported by a wide circle of teachers, village committees, volunteers and friends.

Growing the circle

More schools, more native species, and a growing network of Little Earth Guardians across The Gambia.

Our approach

Listen. Plant. Teach. Grow.

A planting day is the beginning, not the finish line. This is how we try to make each one count.

01

Listen

Start with the school, the village and the people who will care for the trees long after we leave.

02

Plant

Choose native species that feed, shade and protect. Plant them together, with children at the centre.

03

Teach

Build climate education into the school day, in languages and stories that land.

04

Grow

Return, tend, measure and share. The care after planting is where a forest begins.

Partners & supporters

A growing circle.

We work alongside schools, Village Development Committees, local leaders, teachers, parents, businesses and international supporters. If you share the vision, there is room in the circle.
